The SHORT(ish) answer to your question is: You can be a virgin and not bleed the first time you have vaginal intercourse with someone.
As you may know, the bleeding that happens when some women have vaginal intercourse for the very first time is from the hymen breaking. It actually can hurt a bit, too. Why? Because it’s literally skin, partially covering the vaginal opening, being torn as the penis enters.

Here are some examples of why some women don’t / won’t bleed the first time they have sex:
Women’s hymen are as varied as everything else on us. They can look all sorts of different ways, be all sorts of different sizes.
In MANY (most) cases, especially if a girl/woman has been using tampons while menstruating, the hymen will have been broken before they have sex, because insertion of the tampon at one time or another will have torn it.
Often, women/girls don’t notice the pain from the breaking because of other pain & discomfort going on while they’re having their period, and the bleeding that comes with it is masked by the menstrual blood.
There are other ways a hymen may be broken without vaginal intercourse, including the (somewhat obvious) use of a dildo or other phallic (penis-shaped) implement inserted in the vagina, and in some cases, its been broken while riding a bike, or a horse, or other odd one-off ways.
As you can see from the diagram I inserted in my response here, hymens come in all shapes and sizes, and another reason it may not tear & bleed is simply because the vaginal opening is already wide/big enough to accommodate the partner’s penis.
A QUESTION FOR YOU
One of my big questions to you, though, is about your partner’s knowledge of your virginity in general … HOPEFULLY, this is something you two discuss long before you actually sleep together. Have you talked about that kind of stuff? Is it important to him (or you) that you do bleed the first time you have sex? Because anymore, it’s hit-or-miss if you will. You still might, a little bit, depending on how big your partner is and how your hymen is shaped in the first place.
You could probably ask your gynecologist the next time you see him/her to tell you if your hymen is still intact.
MY STORY
For what it’s worth, I waited until I was 26 to have sex for the first time. Yes. Seriously. I really did. I know, it sounds crazy in this day & age, but I did. And I’m glad I did. He was 36. I didn’t bleed, even though, technically, I was a virgin, just like you. (And believe me, it wasn’t because he had a small penis. Oh, goodness, let’s just all be VERY clear — it wasn’t that at all.)
